Dental Abscess

Is a dental abscess causing you intense or persistent pain? An abscess forms after a bacterial infection near the root of a tooth. This leads to the accumulation of pus. Once formed, abscesses seldom go away on their own. Instead, they usually get bigger, potentially leading to severe bone loss.

Symptoms of a Dental Abscess

  • Redness in the infected area
  • A visible bump or ‘pimple’ at the painful site
  • Sharp, throbbing, or shooting pain which may extend to the jawbone, neck, or ear area.
  • Swelling in the face or cheek
  • Pain that worsens whey lying down

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, pain relief is your biggest concern. At the Placerville Dental Group, we are here to reduce your pain and treat the problem ASAP!

Dental Abscess Pain Relief

Manage your symptoms before your appointment by doing the following:

  1. Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to help reduce discomfort.
  2. Apply a cold compress to the face near the affected area to reduce swelling and pain.
  3. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to manage the pain.
  4. Contact the Placerville Dental Group at (530) 444-5322.

Home treatments generally provide just temporary relief, so seeing a dentist is critical to accurately diagnose and treat the abscess and prevent further potentially life-threatening complications.

Excellent experience with all the staff & the dentist. I had to have a crown replaced & don’t think I’ve had a better encounter. Very thorough & they explained everything. Sure did a good job minimizing any discomfort.

Broke a piece off a rear tooth over the weekend. Placerville Dental group fit me in Thursday, first thing, since I didnt have any pain. I thought they would pull it, but the Dr. suggested a crown. In 2.5 hours I have a temporary and in 2 weeks I get the permanent crown. BTW: this is a new dentist for me as I had not selected a new dentist since moving to Placerville. I now have one. thanks PDG.

I've been taking my daughter here for the last few years and have had nothing but good experiences. Previously went to Make a Smile in El Dorado Hills and realized they were billing for all sorts of non-needed services to drive up my bill. Never had that problem here, everyone is very friendly, would very much recommend.
